Kowhai Whanau Assembly

On Friday we had a Kowhai Whanau assembly.

Room 13 was able to share some of their art and writing.

Here is a photo of us with our cats and our character descriptions.

Mrs Steel was so impressed with our work that she came down after the assembly and gave us all some special award stickers!

We also had some super learners who received certificates this week.
Well done to Yi Hang, Dylan and Elliot.

The Giant Walk

On the 30th of October Sunnyhills School all took part in a giant walk.

The whole school walked down to the Snakes and Ladders park and then back to school again.

We were joined by Wanda the Walking School Bus as well as a policeman and his police dog.

It was so lovely to get out in the sunshine and walk with our Room 9a buddies.

Thank you to the parents who came along to walk with us!

Growing Our Own Plants!

Room 13 were lucky enough to become members of a secret club called the Little Garden League. Our mission was to plant seeds and care for them in order for them to grow.

We need to remember to keep watering them over the school holidays so they can keep growing!

More Certificates!

Room 13 had some more certificates given out on Friday!

These children have all been using their GEMS in their learning and they have now completed the Quick60 programme. Well done everyone!

Room 13 Superstars

We had some superstars in Room 13 last week!

Since we are not having any assemblies right now, we had our own little celebration in our classroom to recognise some students who have been working super hard over the past few weeks.

Jeremy, Zoey and Nuveena all received certificates for using their Sunnyhills GEMS!

Keep up the fantastic work!

Scooter Skills

Yesterday Room 13 had a lesson with Auckland Transport to learn some scooter skills.

Before we even got our scooter we had to check that our helmets were safe using the 2, 4, 1 rule.

Once our helmets were safe, we had to check that our scooter was safe to ride.

We learned how to do emergency stops, how to use our brakes, and that we need to stop, look both ways and walk across a zebra crossing.

We also learnt about all the things we need to be careful of when we are riding our scooters along a footpath. A really important one is to look out for sneaky driveways!

We had lots of fun learning how to ride our scooters safely.

Distance Learning - What it will look like!

Starting Monday the 17th August we will be doing distance learning.

Please check the class blog every morning to see what I have put up. It might be a video or message from me, or some of your classmate’s work to comment on.

I will email your parents later as to when you are having a Google Meet this week with the login code, most likely Wednesday mid-morning or Thursday afternoon.

I have shared a copy of the Distance Learning slides to your Google drive in your Inquiry folder.  This is where you will do all your schoolwork. Distance Learning Slides are under the 'Learning At Home' tab, now on this blog and the Sunnyhills School website.

You can share the work with me when it is finished and I will look at it. I will comment on some of your work and give you feedback.

I expect you to do some of the Reading, Maths, Writing and Toys Inquiry activities on these slides by the end of the week. You can do it in any order you like. A little bit each day is fine.

You all have devices and know how to use them very well because we have learned a lot this year already. If you need help reading the instructions, ask an adult or older sister or brother to help. It does not have to be perfect but always try your best.

If for some reason you have forgotten your google drive email or password your parents can email me and I will send it to them. Remember all of you can access your school drive on any device with this email and password.

Enjoy doing your learning at home and have fun. Remember your GEMS and I will see you soon online. Take care.

A Message from Miss Bycroft

 Kia ora Room 13,

What an unusual start to our day!  I hope you are staying safe at home.  For the rest of this week for learning at home, I will post a daily video so we can keep in touch.

If you would like to do some learning at home, you can still access the previous slide decks from the blog and the school website.  There are still loads of fun learning activities to do.  And of course, it is Maths week and the website is full of fabulous activities that you might like to have a go at.  This link is on the blog https://www.mathsweek.co.nz/ and remember to read, read, read!

If we are going to be at home for longer from Monday there will be a new slide deck and I will sort out a Google Meet timetable. Look after yourself, do some exercise, practice mindfulness and of course use your GEMS!

Love Miss Bycroft
